Abstract

STARS is an integrated set of knowledge-bases and related tools that support the safety analyst during the various stages of the safety assessment of plant. This paper presents the application on a real case study of the general modelling methodology, as defined in STARS, and the validation of the automatic fault tree construction (FT) based on these models, compared with traditional FT techniques. The case study is based on a large LOCA scenario for the Surrey NPP, for which two sub-systems, the low pressure injection and recirculation system (LPI/LPR) and the core spray system (CSS), have been considered in detail.
