This paper examines the application of a class of evolutionary optimisation tools, namely the genetic algorithms, to innovation. With the simple model of technological innovation (developed for this purpose) and as a result of the genetic processing which is applied to it, a parallel between simulation results and real world innovation characteristics can be observed. More generally, it is proposed to make use of this approach for dealing with any type of complex innovation issues, both social or technological.
