  • Studies of the deformation and fracture of a rock salt mass in the neighbourhood of underground cavities : Laboratory experiments and modelling

Abstract

This report presents the results of a laboratory test campaign (triaxial creep tests and relaxation test) carried out on samples of rock salt, the definition of the constitutive law of this salt from the experimental results, and the numerical modelling of the in situ test. The conclusions prove clearly that this salt is a viscoplastic material subject to strain hardening: the strain rate increases when stress or temperature increases and it decreases when strain itself increases.
