This paper describes the application of the Taylor-Galerkin method and the Petrov-Galerkin method to the calculation of incompressible turbulent flows. A finite fractional step method for the averaged Navier-Stokes equations and other averaged transport equations is combined with either the Taylor-Galerkin explicit method or the Petrov-Galerkin implicit method to achieve an accurate treatment of the convection-diffusion part of the problem. Two test cases are selected for investigation: the Nielsen 2D test and a 2D square cavity problem. In the second test case the transport of a passive pollutant is considered.
