Abstract

In this paper, methods to obtain spins of epithermal neutron p-wave resonances on the basis of captive gamma-ray spectroscopy are discussed. The success of parity-violation (PV) experiments with epithermal neutrons has revived an interest in studying p-wave resonances and their properties. At the Gelina facility in Geel, a series of measurements has started to assign spins to p-wave resonances and (for non-zero spin targets) the spins to s-wave resonances. Results of these experiments carried out in Geel are reviewed and related to PV experiments.
