Radiation transport and atomic physics modeling in high-energy-density laser-produced plasmas
The radiation hydrodynamics in laser-produced high-energy-density plasmas has been successfully simulated by means of the MULTI hydrocode (a one-dimensional fully implicit code that solves Langrangian hydrodynamics). Used in conjunction with the SNOP atomic physics code, it generates non-LTE (local thermal equilibrium) opacity tables. This paper reviews the modelling of the radiation hydrodynamics in laser-produced plasma. MULTI and SNOP models are described in detail and examples of simulations of the radiation transport in laser plasmas are presented.
