Abstract

Fast Fourier transform (FFT) methods are very important for the automatic non-contact measurement of deformation in many engineering applications. Although the basic principles are understood, some aspects of their practical application remain to be fully investigated. After a review of the principles of FFT phase measurements of interferograms, the problems of dealing with non-monotonic phase functions are discussed. Applications to holographic and TV-holographic interferograms demonstrate the possibilities and limitations of the numerical techniques applied to practical cases.
