Coating of particles for the design of intergranular phases in engineering ceramics
This paper focuses on the properties of Si(3)N(4) and SiC particles coated with Y-, Al-, and Y+Al-containing sintering aids, prepared using forced hydrolysis of Y, Al, and Y+Al salt solutions in the presence of urea. The objective is to minimise the amount of sintering aids while ensuring a homogeneous distribution. Coated particles were characterised by scanning (SEM), transmission (TEM) and high resolution (HREM) electron microscopy.
