Tests on a four-storey full-scale R/C frame designed according to Eurocodes 8 and 2 : Preliminary report
An experimental campaign on a 4 storey full scale reinforced concrete frame has been carried out in the European Laboratory for Structural Assessment (ELSA) of the Joint Research Centre of the European Commission. The outcome of this experimental campaign is an excellent opportunity to assess the adequacy of the damage indicators considered in the cooperative research. However, the importance of the test goes beyond the calibration of damage indicators. It is expected that the results obtained in the test campaign will provide useful information for the calibration of Eurocode 8 (EC8), the European pre-norm for the design of structures subjected to seismic actions. This preliminary report provides a description of the tests performed and the main results obtained. It will provide the basis for the post test calculations, which will allow to correlate exhaustively the experimental results with the predicted values. The test results also represent a means to calibrate computer models and to develop new ones. With this aim, we have tried to describe in detail the main characteristics of the specimen and to provide the main experimental results.
