This book presents the state of knowledge regarding long term availability of conventional transportation fuels, based on fossil resources, and the environmental effects of fossil fuel use. Possible alternative fuels which can contribute to the reduction of atmospheric pollution are discussed. In the context of a general switch to clean, renewable energy sources, hydrogen is seen as a prospective energy source for both air and ground transport. A survey of the Euro-Quebec Hydrogen Project, covering numerous aspects of hydrogen production from clean energy sources, storage and distribution up to the end-use of hydrogen as a transportation fuel and in other applications, is presented.
