A systematic investigation has been carried out to characterise the response of the EMSL antenna system in the area around the calibration point (diameter 6 m). A metallic sphere was used as probe over a regular grid of test points. This paper concerns the monostatic configuration where a polarimetric calibration can be implemented. The 2-way co-polar response and polarisation purity have been measured as a function of frequency (2-18 GHz) and antenna coordinates (theta, phi). A possible approach is proposed to extend to a wider region the applicability of the single point polarimetric calibration which in principle is valid only at the calibration point.
