Abstract

Photocatalytic processes, using semiconductors as catalysts and natural or artificial radiation as energy source, can be an alternative means of pollution treatment. In this report different semiconductors have been tested placing them into several photoreactors in the form of suspended particles or supported on different materials in the reaction medium. Organic and inorganic pollutants were treated using this technique and good results obtained in their decomposition or transformation to less nocive forms. The influence of the amount of radiation as well as the geometry of the reactor were studied.
