Data requirements for agro-meteorological modelling on a European scale
The MARS project is developing systems to provide the European Commission with surface and yield estimates for the major European crops. While remotely sensed data are used to assess crop quality and estimate surface areas, it is not yet possible to derive quantitative continental yield estimates using this type of data. Agro-meteorological models can be used to provide quantitative crop state indicators and yield estimates to complement the techniques based on satellite-derived data.
