Abstract

A simple 3D algorithm is used to minimise heat load variation on a plasma facing component for a given e-folding length of the power flowing in the scrape-off layer of a tokamak machine. Heat load peaking factors not larger than two are obtained for the geometry of the FTU machine. The designing of constant heat load surfaces takes into account the condition of heat flux uniformity in both the poloidal and toroidal direction separately.
