Abstract

To understand the electron hybridisation of the intermetallic compound YbAl(3), the magnetisation of a flux-grown single crystal was investigated with a SQUID magnetometer at different temperatures in applied fields up to B = 5T. The same crystal was also used to determine the magnetic susceptibility of the compound in the temperature range 2-300 K. The magnetic susceptibility measured on the single crystal agreed with earlier polycrystal results, showing the well known maximum at T = 130 K followed by a Curie-Weiss temperature dependence at higher temperatures.
