Community Research and Development Information Service - CORDIS

The standards set for non-destructive testing techniques for the inspection of industrial structural components are of two main types: those which detail the methods and procedures to be used (prescriptive) and those that define the results which must be achieved (performance standards). This publication contains material relating to the qualification of inspection procedures. The general objective is one of supporting international codes and standards bodies through technical tools, expertise and demonstrative exercises that can be sponsored and managed at the European level. PISC (Programme for Inspection of Steel Components) and other national programmes or industrial activities in EU and EFTA countries have led to the setting up of centres of organisations for the qualification of inspection procedures. These initiatives have produced a new type of expertise and generated material which could be made available at a European level.
