Abstract

The aim of this project is to help the association I Tre Fiumi, located in south-eastern Corsica, to develop small-region tourism. In this case, photovoltaic electricity has been used for two important purposes: (i) the lighting of five historic buildings of architectural value; (ii) the lighting of a map, three distance markers and twelve boards that give commercial and tourist information on the region. These systems are innovative because the photovoltaic modules are fixed at the top of the support, and thus cannot be seen. This has the advantage of being more compact and of limiting the risks of vandalism in isolated sites. The main problems during the implementation of the project were: the difficulty in obtaining additional funding, the delay in obtaining approval for selecting the sites, and the problems of vandalism and theft.
