Construction of a hydroelectric power plant on the Sambre in the township of Floriffoux, province of Namur (Belgium)Funded under: ENG-THERMIE 1
The project aims at recuperating energy from the Floriffoux lock on the Sambre by an original process of two inverted-syphon turbines under a 3.85 m head. This method makes easier the integration into massive works without altering their solidity. The whole installation is ordered by a programmable automation which combines the optimisation of the turbines' functioning with the delicate control of the river levels. The installation is linked to the grid to which the energy produced is sold. Despite some problems linked with the weakness of a supplier during construction, the installation has reached the performance forecast at the time it became operational. Consequently, it is an installation whose cost should be less than that of other classic diversions. The technology of the integrated diversion and that of combined regulation can be reproduced in many low-heads; their commercialisation is being studied.
