The report describes the work carried out to establish the correlation between the prothrombin time ratio determined with a new preparation of thromboplastin from rabbit brain and that obtained with the international reference preparation of thromboplastin from human brain origin (IRP 67/40). As this original IRP no longer exists, the correlation could not be done directly but was made instead through measurements against RBT/90, the current WHO IRP for rabbit thromboplastin. The intended use of the material is to provide the manufacturers of thromboplastins with a means to establish the relationship between their thromboplastin preparations and the IRP 67/40. The new rabbit thromboplastin preparation has been shown to be homogeneous and stable.
