The recovery, detinning and recycling of 2000 tonnes per annum of ferrous metals from municipal refuseFunded under: ENG-THERMIE 1
The main installation for a process for the recycling and recovery of ferrous and non-ferrous metals from post-consumer can sources consists of a cleaning and shredding plant which removes dirt and aluminium, followed by a chemical detinning section which recovers tin and steel separately. The original technical objectives have been achieved but modifications are being made to improve the overall process. The process can be replicated where reliable volumes of raw material are available at prices which reflect the cyclical nature of the prevailing prices for the end-products.
