Shear-compression testing and analysis of brick masonry walls
The purpose of the research presented is to investigate the seismic behaviour of unreinforced brick masonry walls both experimentally and numerically, and to assess the ability of the pseudo-dynamic method to handle stiff brittle structures. The seismic behaviour of brick masonry walls depends on their height/width ratio and on vertical stress. The pseudo-dynamic method is able to handle stiff brittle structures provided that the control system ensures a good precision on forces and displacements. However, objective comparison with dynamic tests is often difficult because, on a shaking table, the loading conditions are difficult to control.
