Hydriding of metal samples in microwave discharges
Hydriding of thin Nb samples in hydrogen discharges in a standard microwave oven operating at 2.45 GHz is investigated. Details of a suitable unit are given. Relatively high concentrations of hydrogen in the sample could be achieved. Theoretical considerations of the entry process are presented. The microwave gas discharge procedure presents a viable alternative to gas phase charging for hydriding thin films or fairly thin bulk specimens.
