Modeling studies of the uniaxial creep of a brittle matrix composite
This paper describes the studies undertaken to model the brittleness of structural ceramics. An internal variable formalism developed for metallic matrix composites was obtained from shear lag analysis. The study showed that a microstructurally informed modelling approach, intimately based on both microscopic information and on the results of accurate mechanical tests, can be an invaluable tool in the design of improved advanced materials.
