The pseudodynamic test method can be directly applied to structures having masses concentrated in few degrees of freedom. In many cases the mass distribution is far from being concentrated in a few locations. A methodology to update the mass values starting from the consistent mass matrix is presented. The formulation is well suited to the general philosophy of the pseudodynamic test method, in the sense that it uses the available experimental on-line measurements (the measure of the deflected shape) to improve the realism of the test itself. Numerical simulations are performed to explore the adequacy of the method.
