This research project aimed at optimising underground drive engineering in two ways. In the first stage a flameproof 152 kVA pulse-controlled a.c. converter with a mains-friendly rectifier circuit has been developed, and comprehensive investigations with a 150 m long test aerial cableway have been carried out. With the application of such converters together with a robust three phase asynchronous machine a technically and economically progressive alternative to the hydraulic ropeway haulage installations will be available. In the second stage, systems for the inductive energy transmission have been analysed, a 10 kVA laboratory prototype for inductive energy transmission has been constructed and characteristics for the transmission to a mobile auto-drive at the laboratory prototype have been determined. The results will serve for the development of a new, universally applicable and flexible type of personnel transport installation.
