Abstract

This paper describes the TERPSICHORE code used to evaluate the MHD stability properties of stellarators. The code has been developed with the objective of exploring the 3D parameter space to identify configurations that demonstrate potential as fusion reactors. The TERPSICHORE code is organised in six basic modules: interface to the equilibrium, reconstruction of the equilibrium, mapping to Boozer coordinates, construction of the stability matrix elements, eigenvalue solver, and analysis and diagnostics. Each module is investigated in this paper and the future development of more powerful computers is discussed.
