The compatibility of SiC/SiC composites with ceramic breeder materialsFunded under: JRC-FUSAFE 5C
This paper describes the results of preliminary compatibility tests between the ceramic breeder materials LiAlO(2), Li(2)ZrO(3) and Li(4)SiO(4) and the two commercially available SiC/SiC composites. Simple capsule tests were carried out at 600 and 800 C in closed capsules, dynamic vacuum and flowing helium. The reaction of the breeder materials to form Li(2)SiO(3) is discussed in relation to the probable operating conditions for SiC/SiC composite structural materials in a blanket.
