The improvement of energy certification by means of advanced expert systems for building auditing
The Council of Ministers of the European Union has approved a specific Directive enforcing energy certification of buildings in all EU member countries. The aim of the Directive is to save energy, reduce CO(2) emissions and make the real estate market more transparent. This report describes how expert systems can be used for carrying out building energy audits efficiently. The system employed, called BEAMES (Building Energy Auditing Management Expert System) is a prototype expert system suitable for demonstrations. The report includes sections on the main performance features of BEAMES, its application to neural networking, its operational features, and a discussion of the future development of the BEAMES programme.
