Abstract

Third harmonic generation of sub-mm wave radiation in n-doped silicon has been investigated with the aim of developing an efficient frequency converter for gyrotron radiation which could be used as radiation source for alpha-particle diagnostics in the ITER tokamak. A power conversion efficiency of 1.0 E-3 was achieved with an incident power of 2 MW at 676 microns. The current power limit is due to surface breakdown effects rather than saturation.
