In this paper two main topics of statistical diagnostics are analysed as a complementary methodology to other engineering approaches. The first topic is the method used for the identification and analysis of the systems as multivariate auto regressive moving average processes. The diagnosis procedure consists of a hierarchically organised set of statistical tests which respond to changes in the trajectories of the system. The second topic is the study of the experimental facilities. This includes a description of the dynamics of a combustion boiler and the identification of an electromechanical system.
