Abstract

The first of these three papers suggests ideas for improvements to the tokamak concept. Four lines of research are identified: (i) optimum plasma shape and aspect ratio; (ii) optimum combination of pressure and current profile compatible with high H(G), high beta(N), and large bootstrap current in an equilibrium situation; (iii) the use of current drive to control the configuration; (iv) heat and particle exhaust. The second paper discusses the propects for steady-state tokamak reactor operation through feedback control of the current density profile. The final paper analyses current drive efficiency requirements for an attractive steady-state reactor.
