Abstract

Alfvén waves play an important role in fusion plasma technology, in Alfvén wave heating schemes, in global Alfvén eigenmodes, and in toroidicity induced Alfvén eigenmodes (TAEs). Destabilisation of TAEs could limit the number of fusion alpha particles in the plasma, affecting reactor operation. A global perturbative approach is presented to tackle the problem of the linear stability of TAEs. The model computes the overall wave particle power transfers to the different species, and could also be applied to the study of alpha power extraction in the presence of Alfvén waves.
