High temperature characteristics of HPSN under the conditions of a simulated coal gasification
The characterisation of hot-pressed silicon nitride (HPSN) under the conditions of coal gasification can be determined in two ways. Firstly samples can be exposed to a simulated coal gasification atmosphere and then undergo mechanical testing in an inert atmosphere or vacuum; several important results of this method are presented. A second method, the in-situ method, is described, in which samples are exposed to the same gas while they are subjected to mechanical stress; initial results are compared with those from the first method.
