Abstract

The issue of assessing software quality is an important challenge as software components are more and more often embedded within safety critical systems, in potentially hazardous applications. There is also a tendency for integrating in such systems knowledge-based software components especially for control and monitoring processes. This paper suggests that knowledge-based system software has specific properties which classic software lacks. These are important for validation purposes and thus for quality assessment. Validation techniques based on specific knowledge-based system properties are described in this paper.
