Colorimetry at TEXTOR - A new diagnostic for in-situ determination of erosion and deposition rates on extended areas
A colorimetric technique has been introduced at TEXTOR to observe the development of high carbon erosion at wall elements. Colorimetry quantifies the interference colours of the transparent co-deposits of carbon and hydrogen which are mainly dependant upon thickness. The paper describes the set-up and calibration of the facility as a video and an image processing system and how colour coordinates are defined and measured. Rates of erosion are measured on precarbonised graphite test pieces exposed in the SOL for ohmic and neutral beam heated plasmas. Erosion at the tangency point of the probe is found and indication for prompt deposition as well as the influence of limiter geometry.
