Abstract

The ultra-modern Ensidesa LD-III steel plant, with a capacity of 2.5 million tonnes per year, came on line in 1988. This research project developed an intelligent production and planning control system for this plant. It is composed of two modules. The first is written in Fortran language and performs the tracking function, man-machine interface, communications, production supervison, and preparation of data for the expert system. The second module, programmed in ART-IM, supplies recommendations every time that there is a change in events or that parameters are entered manually. This system is also used by the Production Planning Group in composing the schedule of heats for daily production programmes.
