Managing radioactive waste in the European CommunityFunded under: FP2-RADWASTOM 4C
This booklet aims to address the concern about waste management procedures and the disposal of longer lived wastes. It summarises the present situation relating to radioactive wastes in countries of the European Unionand the outlook for the future. The sources, categories and quantities of waste to be dealt with are described and the international, Community and national regulatory frameworks are presented. The range of techniques being applied or developed for the treatment, storage and disposal of the wastes are examined as are the approaches to the assessment of safety. Associated research and development activities are outlined.
