Community Research and Development Information Service - CORDIS

This report presents the guidelines for manual handling in the steel industry. They are intended to provide a practical guide to changes in work design and organisation to reduce the risk of back injury in steel making operations. The basic principles by which the safety of handling operations may be judged are explained and examples to indicate how improvements are achieved are provided. These examples are grouped under operational headings with a summary of the handling problem in question and a number of diagrams showing possible approaches to solutions.
