This special issue of the journal, Annales des Sciences Forestières, presents the proceedings of the first meeting of the IUFRO working party S2.02-22, held in France in September 1991. The papers presented deal with the genetics of oaks and are divided into the following sections: (i) taxonomy and interspecific variation; (ii) hybridisation and sexual reproduction; (iii) intraspecific variation; (iv) vegetative propagation; (v) tree improvement.
