Abstract

The process of making a GDF involves the tasks of digitising, attributing and defining relationships, and validation. This document draws division lines between these tasks and specifies how a tool supporting the second task - attributing and defining relationships - should function. The structure of GDF - feature classes, defined attributes per feature class, allowed values for attributes, inter dependencies of attributes, relationships between features - is very complex. The operator requires a tool that offers all the necessary assistance and that does not accept not allowed values or value combinations. The attributing tool specified offers this in a window-oriented manner. A detailed description of a data base structure suitable for the GDF tools is also provided.
