Community Research and Development Information Service - CORDIS

This report is a supplement to deliverable 1 on the survey of man-machine interface standards and legislation requirements for driver information (1992) in which standards and legislation requirements regarding in-car information presentation and use were analysed and the future needs of European manufacturers identified. Eight EC and EFTA countries were examined. This report, extends the analysis to include the Netherlands, Italy, Luxembourg, Greece and Belgium as the situation in these countries is similar to those reviewed previously. They are in accordance with the rules of the Vienna convention concerning on-road information, with some specific practices for travel and traffic information. The mandatory specifications which exist concerning car certification do not encompass any in-car information aspects, except in Italy, where recent legislation has prohibited the use while driving, of mobile telephones which are not hands-free in operation.
