This book discusses the population explosion in India and the threatened ecological balance of the planet. Work, employment and the standard of living, water and energy, urbanisation, health and the environment are analysed. The futility of relying on direct intervention alone to control population growth is underlined and the high potential of science and technology in addressing the problem is reported. Sustainable development with unsustainable population growth, and population and public policy are also discussed.
