Abstract

This paper presents the problem of first wall lifetime under thermal fatigue. The discussion is concerned with numerical evaluation of the thermal stress and strain, application of the existing nuclear standard codes, and influence of different manufacturing technologies on the fatigue behaviour and development of nondestructive techniques for the evaluation of the component structural integrity. Five independent laboratories applied different finite element methods and design codes to predict the allowable number of cycles of a simple first wall test piece.
