The SOL width and MHD interchange instability in tokamaksFunded under: FP3-FUSION 11C
Ideal and resistive MHD interchange instabilities play a crucial role with increasing beta in the SOL of tokamak plasma. Applying the mixing length argument, the perpendicular coefficients are defined in different regimes which yields the scaling of the SOL width. This paper presents a theoretical investigation of the SOL plasma stability, for JET single-null and double-null divertor configurations. The dependence of the stability threshold on the SOL beta and on the sheath resistance is established. The paper includes a discussion of the eigenfunctions generated.
