Abstract

Several projects on the foundations of a modern information system for use in planning mining have culminated in the development of a data model for the geometrical and topographical representation of roadways, shafts and other mine elements within a relatioal database. The SQL-Database implemented uses the ORACLE database management system under the AIX operating system, creating an open system suitable for further development at different locations. A transfer program giving excellent graphical output for the AUTOCAD system was also developed. With regard to response times and ease of connection with existing standard graphics software, results were encouraging. Further work will concentrate on integration across diverse applications, database support for distributed planning, integration of data stored at dispersed sites, and an on-line interface between database and graphics.
