Abstract

Guidelines for clinical practice (sometimes also termed practice policies) are receiving increasing attention from clinicians and health services as a means for applying best current knowledge to maximise the quality and efficiency of delivered care. This book explores the scope and needs for further work in this area. The following issues are addressed: primary and community care, secondary and shared care, guidelines and knowledge engineering. Specific clinical areas include general medical practice (prevention, prescription, chronic disease management), cancer, cardiology, neurology, gastro-enterology, rehabilitation and critical care.
