Abstract

The objective of this study is to investigate experimentally and analytically the semi-rigid behaviour and performance of the R/C beam-column joints, strengthened using adhesively bonded external steel plates, under simulated earthquake loading. Eight specimens prepared at Bogazici University Structures and Materials Laboratories in Istanbul have been tested at the ELSA laboratory in Ispra. The experimental results including damage mechanism, force-displacement and moment-rotation characteristics and energy dissipation capabilities are compared with the reference tests. In addition, further improvements that can be made in the strengthening technique are suggested.
