In today's society, problems associated with environmental management are extremely complex and make the work of decision makers and planners difficult. This presentation outlines some of the methods of research used to improve decisional analysis, beginning with quantitative scientific approaches to the solution of decision-making problems regarding environmental management, particularly those which involve the creation and implementation of decision support systems. Reference is made in particular to the contribution of multi-criteria decisional theories and the potential for integrating them with social sciences.
