Ideal MHD stability in tokamaks with external windingsFunded under: FP3-FUSION 11C
The aim of this study is to investigate the effect of external helical windings on local and global MHD stability in tokamak plasmas. For local stability the best marginal beta(*) value is obtained for a configuration that has higher total toroidal current than the tokamak. For global stability, the axisymmetric configuration gives the best marginal beta value. The problem of the transition and accessibility from the first stability regime to the second (q(0) values from 1 to 2 or more) requires further investigation.
