First results of the SAFE code (Solution Adaptive Finite Element) had emphasised the importance of a geometrically realistic treatment of complex wall structures in the scrape-off layer (SOL) of tokamaks. In a single fluid approximation and with fixed electron temperature profile, the plasma flow has been calculated for the limiter configuration of TEXTOR. The source terms, generated by the recycling neutrals, are computed using the Monte Carlo code EIRENE. In this paper the SAFE code is extended to take into account the electron temperature selfconsistently. To save computer time, for the first approximation of the particle and energy sources and sinks due to reionisation and charge exchange, a fast analytical neutral particle model was developed. This modified SAFE-EIRENE code system is applied again to the SOL of TEXTOR. Since the SOL is not completely collision-dominated, the classical dissipative fluxes of electrons and ions along the magnetic field should be limited by collision-free fluxes. The influence of these flux limitations is studied.
